Volunteer Victoria's Social Media Policies

In spring 2010, Volunteer Victoria developed social media policies to: 1) guide our staff and volunteers around identifying their relationship with Volunteer Victoria on their own personal social networking sites, 2) provide direction to our staff and volunteers around communicating and maintaining Volunteer Victoria's own official social networking sites, and 3) provide guidance to external contributors around our social media policies for the purpose of having them submit content to our social networking sites.

Volunteer Victoria's Volunteer Fair Preparation Guide

This volunteer fair preparation guide is designed to help agencies make their volunteer fair experiences positive and productive. It is filled with tips gleaned from web experts as well as local coordinators of volunteers and Volunteer Victoria staff and volunteers.

Volunteering as a Stepping Stone for Marginalized Youth

This study explores the role that volunteering can play in job acquisition for 'marginalized youth', defined as individuals aged 15-29 who face barriers to employment. Youth unemployment is significantly higher than that of other age groups. Youth, having no work experience, face unique challenges in obtaining their first job. The intent of this study was to use the research results in creating a new volunteer work experience program and / or enhancing existing pre-employment programs. The ultimate goal is to increase youth employability in Greater Victoria.

Caring Across the Boundaries: Toolkit

On November 20th and 21st, 2007, participants from Aboriginal communities and the non-profit sector in Victoria came together for the Caring Across the Boundaries Workshops (CAB). The aim was to build relationships and understanding as a starting place for collaboration. This initiative was a collaboration of Volunteer Victoria, Surrounded by Cedars, Boys & Girls Clubs of Gr. Victoria and the Victoria Native Friendship Centre. Notes from the workshops, reflections on the collaborative process and potential next steps have been compiled by the project coordinators. The information in this toolkit outlines community needs and potential actions that could be taken by a wide range of stakeholders interested in community building. It is hoped that the toolkit will facilitate the collaborations started at the CAB Workshop.

Research Report: Connecting Volunteers with Community

This research project explores best approaches for reaching out to isolated populations, as well as strategies for successfully engaging and retaining them in volunteer activities. Conducted by Volunteer Victoria, with a grant from the VIHA S. Island Community Fund, this research was carried out during fall 2002. The results of this study will assist VV in its goal of increasing outreach activities to isolated populations and connecting them to the community through volunteering.
